Available Treatments

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses very thin, single use, sterile needles, which are inserted into specific points on the body. Insertion is relatively pain free and many patients may feel warm, heavy, tingly or gentle achy sensation at the site of the needle.   Most treatments use 6-12 needles and are retained for 20 minutes.  This gives the acupuncture time to promote the body's natural healing response.  This treatment is generally relaxing and the patient often times may leave the office with immediate symptom relief.

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture - "Mini Acupuncture"

This uses acupuncture on the external surface of the ear.  The ear has a microsystem, which is a map of the entire body and brain.  Acupuncture on these points is very effective for addictions, weight loss, stress relief, PTSD, and body conditions.  These "mini" acupuncture treatments are shorter and consist of ear needling and 2-4 other body needles. Treatments are designed to be shorter to fit in multiple per week for best results.

Electro-Acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture is an acupuncture technique that further stimulates the needles by adding a small e-stim or "TENS" unit.  The unit sends mild electrical pulses through small clips attached to the needles for gentle stimulation.  Although Electro acupuncture is not used in all conditions, it is very helpful for spasms in muscles or various kind of pain.

EFT - Tapping

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) taps into the mental-emotional body by 'tapping' acupuncture points. This is helpful for weight loss, addictions, stress relief, support with depression and anxiety, and pain and other conditions treated by acupuncture. This technique is effective for children or those who do not prefer needles. This is offered as a 30 min treatment, or may be used in your typical acupuncture treatment.

Magnet Therapy
Small but strong magnets are taped directly on specific acupuncture points to stimulate the body's natural healing response.  This is another useful technique for those who do not prefer the use of needles. Magnet therapy can be used for almost any condition, and is very effective for children.
Fu Zhen Acupuncture
This is a microsystem of the body on the abdomen. This technique uses very shallow needling to access the body's qi in a special way. Fu zhen is best for providing relief of Diabetic Neuropathy or other kinds of neuropathy pain.

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbal medicine therapy puts individual herbs together to make formulas. These formulas are tailored specifically for the individual and their condition. These formulas are taken internally as a pill, granules (powder-like), or decoction (similar to tea).  The function of Chinese herbs supports the body in between acupuncture visits.  Chinese herbs are useful especially for digestive conditions, pain, sleep, menopause, and anxiety, and for almost all conditions.

External Chinese Herbs
External Chinese herbs and herbal liniments are applied to the skin to treat a variety of conditions, including pain, bone healing, skin conditions, inflammation, and more.

Chinese Dietary Therapy

Chinese medicine offers nutritional advice that heals the body from within. The energetic properties of food can enhance healing in the body and is often guided by the seasons. Chinese dietary therapy is sometimes different from the western idea of nutrition because in Chinese medicine, there is no single diet that is perfect for everyone. All dietary advice is based on the individual and is useful for almost all conditions.

Tui Na / Chinese Massage

Tui na is a type of Chinese therapeutic massage that incorporates stimulating acupuncture points and channels on the body with vigorous rubbing, kneading, and pressing.  It helps promote the healthy flow of qi and blood, therefore bringing the healing energy to the area. Tui na is used for most physical conditions, as well as internal conditions, and It is also effective for children.

Cupping

Cupping brings a fresh flow of qi to the area by creating a suction towards the surface of the skin.  There are different types, including stationary cupping, slide cupping, flash cupping, and bleed cupping. Each one serves to provide relief and strengthen the body's natural healing resources. Cupping is used for various conditions including pain, muscle spasm, and is frequently used immunity booster.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion involves burning a Chinese Herb – Artemisiae Argyi (English name: Mugwort) near the skin to provide penetrating warmth.  It is often called "Moxa."  This is used for various types of pain or cold that may be lodged in the body.  It promotes bloodflow and circulation, which is often the leading cause of pain.

Gua Sha

Gua sha involves gently rubbing a smooth tool over lubricated skin to promote fresh blood flow in an area. Often times old and stagnant blood may come to the surface and create a light bruise color on the skin, indicating the new flow of circulation. This is often used for tight muscles and pain.

Qigong and Meditation

Qi gong is a gentle movement and meditation practice.  It involves standing postures, breathing techniques, and focused intention. Qigong can be used to great effect for overall well being as well as specific conditions. At MLWC, we use qigong as an adjunct therapy to support the 5-element organ system. This is typically something demonstrated for the patient to practice at home to help build and harmonize qi.

Emotion Code

This technique was designed by a chiropractor to release Trapped Emotions from the body's energy field and subconscious mind. It uses Chinese medicine theory to guide us to the organs that are related to the Trapped Emotions. We use a technique called "Applied Kinesiology" or Muscle Testing, to find the trapped emotion, and we simply release it with a magnet. This technique can be done for adults and children. It is great for anxiety, phobias, depression, emotional distraught, and can relieve pain.
